Cable Patch Mic
October 4th, 2010setting up home studio….. help :S?
Q: basically i want to start my own little studio up and i a bit stuck on how to go about it.
Im a drummer and want to record drums so need something that has 7 or 8 input for the mics and overheads.
This is what i currently have acquired:
-Cubase sx software
-drum mic’s including 2 overheads and 5 dynamic
-computer (obviously aha)
-Soundcraft e12 mixer- even though this has no bus out or outputs in the channels i have read that i can change the insert’s to outputs by using a ts to trs patch cable.
Yeah bit stuck on how to connect and what sound card or interfce i would need to make this posible
After many hours of research on the internet i have found this

A: if i was you i would probably look into just getting a small two input interface to connect your mixer to your computer. you can take the stereo output of the mixer and send that into the two inputs on the interface into your computer. you would have to do all of your EQ and stuff on the mixer because you wouldn’t have individual control of the tracks once its on your computer, you’d only have the entire drum mix. that interface would also be handy in letting you record other instruments and add them to your drums. personally i think i would rather have an 8 channel interface and get rid of the mixer, but i don’t think it matters either way.
i haven’t used cubase, so i’m not sure about what kind of features it includes. you may find that the processing is better in cubase than the mixer, which would hurt you, but overall you should be able to get good sound.
