Microphone Shock Mount
One of Mazda’s top selling cars, the MX-5 has been reinventing itself since then. Before, it borrowed from the big RX-8 the very visible fenders as well as the very aggressive headlights. And for this year, it borrowed its previous cloth roof for a sleek, retractable hardtop.
The latest MX-5 Miata PRHT is a well designed roadster from top to bottom that experts on luxury interiors would agree that it is really amazingly designed. Its PRHT stands for “power retractable hard top”. It now has a new plastic composite roof that slightly contributes to the added weight of the curb. The latest MX-5 Miata PRHT is very cozy to ride on and to drive, especially for tall people to whom the cabin is intended for.
One of the latest car’s technological options is the premium audio setup that is composed of a Bose 7-speaker sound system with Audiopilot noise compensation technology. This technology is engineered to adjust the acoustic output level according to the background noise level. The cabin-mounted microphone is used to monitor audio output. This output then compares to the music signal, making alterations for noise lessening if necessary.
The Audiopilot seems not to affect audio output but the built-in roof-activated sound adjustment ensures that open-air drivers have a better chance of hearing their tunes.
The interior of the hardtop MX-5 Grand Touring is at the same time stylish, sporty, and protected. It has ocher plastic panels with “saddle tan” leather seats. Across the dash is a very stylish and well polished black material. The legroom is sufficient for those over 6-feet tall, not all 2007 MX-5 features are advantageous to taller ones.
When the driver’s seat is fully back, the rearview mirror yields difficulty in forward visibility because it takes up nearly a quarter of forward visibility. Another thing is that the clutch take-up is very high on the manual-transmission model. So tall people will find their left knee wedged between the left door’s handrail and the steering wheel before the clutch engages.
But despite these disadvantages, whether the roof is up or down, the PRHT definitely stands out among its rivals because of its striking looks.
As the hardtop folds away, the roof breaks into three panels. And it takes nearly 12 seconds to interleave and disappear behind the seats in the front. The latest Miata has a basic single-disc CD player – a very basic one but still a quality Mazda Miata part.
The optional Sirius Satellite radio, which is a single-line monochrome LCD head unit display, allows drivers to use a vertically mounted toggle switch that requires an up-and-down movement instead of a more typical left-and-right action.
The latest Miata’s 5 cubic feet of trunk space gives the car an accessible trunk with as much room and access with the roof up as with it down. And this is an advantage over either the 2007 Honda S2000 or the 2006 Pontiac Solstice.
Under the hood are selections of engines like 2.0-liter, in-line four-cylinder mill which does not boost performance but assures cool feeling.
The Miata’s weight advantage causes the car’s quality performance. With a curb weight of 2,573 pounds, the MX-5 is nearly 300 pounds lighter than the Solstice, even with the marginal weight of 70 pounds for the hardtop.
The latest MX-5 Miata PRHT can come with a Suspension package that includes Bilstein shocks, limited slip differential, sport-tuned suspension, and the Premium 2 package, which added dynamic stability and traction control along with the DSC, added keyless entry and ignition, an alarm, and xenon headlights, and others. It can also fit an arch-filling 17-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels.
