Studio Furniture
What color should I paint the main room of my studio apt?
Q: I’m moving into a studio soon. I’ve already gotten a black bedspread, some black furniture, and a 3 large paintings which are shadows of trees on a red/orange background.
What paint would complement the black furniture and red/orange paintings?
A: play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the “painted” rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a light warm neutral like “windsor greige” (# 7528) would look terrific with the red & black.
You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they’ll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

Exquisitely photographed and beautifully designed, this complementary catalog of America`s finest studio furniture highlights 84 pieces from the Smithsonian`s Renwick Gallery. Inside, the pages reveal the importance of wooden furniture in the modern American craft arena, and how first- and second-generation artists shaped the studio furniture movement. Such artists include the patriarch of studio furniture, Wharton Esherick, and Wendle Castle, the maker of the most popular piece among gallery visitors-the infamous Ghost Clock. The treasures of the Renwick collection-Judy`s McKee`s Monkey Settee, Sam Maloof`s Rocking Chair, John Cederquist`s Ghost Boy, and George Nakashima`s Conoid Bench-are also included among the many pieces from makers whose work is functional, artistic, and of the finest craftsmanship.
