Recording Condenser Mic

If i paint my Condenser mic, will the paint affect the Recording Quality?

Q: so i was wondering, if i paint a Condenser microphone with Either Spray Paint, or Paint for cars, and throw on a clear coat finish.. as long as i didnt paint the part where the mic is at.. would the paint on the base affect the mic? i know it will maybe make it slightly heavier but im just worried if it will affect the quality of recording?

and also what if i just do a quick spray on the filter screen that covers the Main Mic area?

A: It will not effect the sound if you paint the base of the mic. Just avoid the three pin XLR connector on the bottom.

If you paint the grill, I would highly recommend removing the grill from the mic first. Some of them just screw off. Make sure you don’t block the holes in the grill with excess paint.

If paint gets inside on the mic element itself, you will ruin it. You need to ask yourself “How important is it for me to paint this mic and possibly destroy it?”

Shure Ksm32/Sl Condenser Mic

The Shure KSM32/SL Condenser Mic has extended frequency response for incredibly natural sound. A transformerless preamp eliminates crossover distortion and improves linearity. The gold-layered, high-compliance diaphragm improves low frequency and transient response. 15dB attenuation switch handles high SPLs, the switchable low-frequency filter reduces background noise. The 3-stage pop-protection grille reduces breath noises, and internal shock mount reduces handling noise. Frequency response: 20Hz to 20kHz. Includes locking aluminum carrying case, ShureLock elastic-suspension shockmount, ShureLock swivelmount, and padded bag. Requires phantom power. Channel Strips of the Stars: Ronan Chris Murphy World-class producer/engineer/mixer Ronan Chris Murphy’s credits include King Crimson, Steve Morse, Terry Bozzio, Victor Bisetti, Gregg Bissonette, Tony Levin, and projects with members of Tool, Ministry, Weezer, Dishwalla, and Yes. Ronan was kind enough to share some of his drum-recording signal chains: “Well all of the drums for Terry Bozzio’s Jazz trio were recorded with all A Designs Audio solid state preamps. For drum overheads I used Shure KSM32 condenser mics into an A Designs Audio Pacifica (#189903) to a Manley Variable Mu Limiter Compressor (#620908); for kick drums, AKG D112s (#271161) into A designs Pacificas. (I prefer the Shure Beta 52 (#270267) for kick but they were pre-mounted inside Terry’s (Bozzio) kick drums. Actually I have used the Shure KSM32 into Pacifica combo on tons of great drummers, including Terry Bozzio Victor Bisetti (Los Lobos), Gregg Bissonette (Santana, David Lee Roth), and Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson, Mister Mister, The Rembrandts).” Transformerless preamp eliminates crossover distortion Improved LF response 15dB attenuation switch for high SPLs LF filter for background noise reduction Three-stage pop protection grille

Behringer T-1 Tube Condenser Mic $196.99

Behringer T-1 Tube Condenser Mic

The sound of tube mics is undeniably rich and smooth. At the heart of each Behringer T-1 condenser mic is a hand-selected 12AX7 tube, which has been specifically designed to give these recording microphones their incredible sonic character. One advantage tube condensers have over their solid-state counterparts is that they are not subject to the rapid rise of odd-order harmonics, which the ear perceives as highly unmusical. Even when subjected to high sound pressure levels, the T-1 condenser mic reacts in much the same way the human ear does.An ideal kick-drum micWhile this condenser mic can handle input levels as high as 130dB, the T-1 comes equipped with a switchable -20dB pad for the extremely high transients generated by kick-drums and heavy-metal vocalists. With its 20Hz to 20kHz frequency range, the T-1 can handle all the low-frequency content you can throw at it, and still provide all the definition your sound source deserves.Cardioid polar patternBehringer T-1 Tube Condenser Mics feature a tight cardioid (heart-shaped) sound-reception pattern, which reduces the pickup of sound from the sides and rear for improved source isolation. The included custom shock mount fits all standard microphone stands and provides further isolation from external sources of vibration, such as sounds transmitted through floor joists and outside traffic.Dedicated power supplyThe included Behringer PSU-T power supply/preamp provides the supply voltage for the tube preamplifier and houses a Low Cut switch that can be used to reduce the low frequency response, if so desired. The included 7-pin multi-core cable supplies power to the mic and routes the audio signal to the XLR socket on the PSU-T.The ultimate recording micSince the early days of recording, sound engineers have been searching for the best-sounding mics for recording acoustic instruments and the human voice. The resounding choice of professional recordists around the globe has been the tube condenser microphone because nothing compares to a sound that’s so open, warm, and full of character. Unfortunately, tube mics can wipe out a home-recording budget faster than you can say “phantom power supply.” But with the T-1, anyone who can afford a decent live microphone can have a studio-grade, tube-powered condenser mic for about the same price. The T-1′s sensitive sideAnother advantage of tube mics is that they typically outperform transistor designs when it comes to subtle signal levels, such as environmental ambiance. The T-1 condenser mic picks up every nuance of your performance, capturing an openly transparent slice of time and space with just the right amount of tube warmth. Now you’ll be able to justify that new set of strings for your acoustic guitar (because you’ll hear the difference), and you’ll marvel at the sparkling highlights coming off your wind chimes.Professional, large-diaphragm, tube condenser microphone for unsurpassed audio qualityHand-selected 12AX7 vacuum tube for exceptional warmth and
